Q: Are Drag Radials worth the Expense?

A: Drag Radials will put you solidly in the 1.8s - 1.9s relative to 60' times with a poor launch. Good launches can put you in the 1.6 range. Launching with GSCs that are a year or more old requires you have a hell of a launch technique and even at that, 2.0x are difficult to achieve. Each tenth in the first 60' will gain you .10 - .15 in ET improvement.

BFG KDs are supposedly as sticky or nearly so as the old BFG R1s which are pretty sticky themselves and were a popular autocross tire.

Of course there is a downside to sticky tires.....Namely broken parts. Generally this won't occur with "casual" drag racers. If you frequent the track weekly and make a lot of runs, you do increase your odds of leaving some u-joints at the starting line.
